Regretting You by Colleen Hoover

I have been a fan of Colleen Hoover for many years, her books It Ends With Us, Ugly Love, and November 9th are some of my favorites of hers. While I haven’t read all her books, I have yet to read one that I dislike and Regretting You is no different! Colleen tells the story of both mother, Morgan, and daughter, Clara, after a tragic accident. This was a beautifully written story that flips between the two point of views as they must cope with the loss of not just a husband/father but also a sister/aunt. However, while Clara mourns the loss of two of her favorite people in the world, she also grows closer to the boy she keeps being told to stay away from. Meanwhile Morgan is left suddenly alone, no husband, no sister, and a daughter who is isolating herself. The only person she truly has is her childhood friend, Jonah. However, with Jonah comes feelings from the past that Morgan long since thought was buried. Although, while both Morgan and Jonah lost their partners, they soon find that not everything in their lives was as it seemed. Upon discovering a heartbreaking truth amidst this unforeseen tragedy they only truly have each other to help navigate the storm.

This story had me smiling, laughing, crying, and ultimately screaming at the pages. After having your heart broken at reading the despair and guilt Clara feels, your heart then shatters when reading how heartbroken, worried, and angry Morgan is during her grief. Both women are seemingly trying to protect the other in their own way; however, by doing so it only causes a rift to grow between them. Morgan and Clara have to find a way to stick together in the midst of this rollercoaster of emotions! It is a bumpy ride with a lot of secrets, betrayal, guilt, and blame…. however, at the end if the day, there is truly not many things stronger than the bond of a mother and daughter.

While reading this book I couldn’t help but feel as though I got a two for one special in the romance department. We get a lot of loss and heartache; however, we also get new love and a love that lasted the test of time. You immediately get sucked into the story and you just have to keep reading in hopes that the two will finally be on the same page! I couldn’t set this book down all day, I just had to find out what happened next! One of the things I love about the majority of CoHo’s books is that they are written in a way that I can sit down and read the whole thing within a day. It is not too often that I read a book in a day; however, when it comes to Colleen she writes stories that my brain dives wholeheartedly into and won’t stop until I know what happens.

Overall, I personally don’t think I could recommend this book enough! It has all one could ask for… love, loss, heartbreak, betrayal, tragedy, and even some humor.
